V8 motor upgrade – 400 cubic Pontiac motor out of a 1971 Pontiac Catalina. All new gaskets (except head gaskets). New fuel pump, new water pump, new water pump housing. New hoses and belts. Cleaned and rebuilt the Alternator. New choke pull-off on the carburetor.
Ignition upgrade – The old style points distributor was upgraded to new electronic distributor (MSD Ready-to-run) which is much more reliable and efficient than an old style points distributor. A new coil was installed along with new spark plug wires.
Radiator upgrade – A new 3 core aluminum radiator was installed along with the correct factory radiator fan shroud. This keeps the motor at a comfortable 190*
Transmission Upgrade – 200 4r overdrive transmission was professionally rebuilt with many new parts, to match the performance of the motor and the tire size / rear end ratio of the car. The existing floor shifter was upgraded to shift the new transmission. A switch was added to the lower left portion of the dash which is used to lock out the transmission (pull the switch to engage the overdrive gear of the transmission at highway cruising speeds. You will see the RPM’s drop on the tachometer when the overdrive is engaged, thereby increasing gas mileage. Push the switch in for city driving) New braided steel lines with AN fittings are used to move the transmission fluid to the radiator for cooling and back to the transmission.
Front Disc Brakes – Added factory power front disc brakes. GM spindles were used when replacing the front drum brakes so all related brake components (rotor, calipers and brake pads) are easily sourced at any quality parts store. A new power brake booster and master cylinder were installed. All the brake lines were replaced with new steel brake lines. New rear brake shoes were installed.
Front Suspension – All the upper and lower control arm bushings and ball joints were replace with new quality Moog brand products. New front shock absorbers were installed. The upper and lower control arms were sandblasted and painted while they were out of the car getting new bushings installed.
Exhaust – New factory style exhaust with dual resonators going into 1 crossover muffler with dual tail pipes.
Refurbished Pontiac 14×7 rims with new trim rings and new lug nuts were installed. New BF Goodrich performance TA radial tires were installed (factory correct size P215/70R14)
The convertible top was patched…there are no longer any holes in the top.
The rear window was replaced with new clear vinyl material…you can clearly see out the back window when the top is up.
The passenger side rear quarter window was reinstalled and functional. (it was laying in the bottom of the fender when I got the car )
New electronic gauges (volts, water temperature and oil pressure) with LED back lighting were installed.
New door locks were installed along with a new trunk lock. Trunk lid was adjusted for easier closure.
Factory re-upholstered front seats were installed.
A new factory style antenna was installed. AM radio now plays music.
A new rear differential gasket was installed. There are no fluid leaks anywhere on the car
